A battery stores the solar you would otherwise export for a few cents and uses it when power is most expensive. The federal battery discount is at its current rate until the end of 2026 and drops on 1 January 2027.

Is a battery right for you?
A battery makes most sense when
- You already have solar and export a lot of it. Feed-in tariffs are now low, so storing that energy is worth more than selling it.
- Your household uses most of its power after 4pm. Cooking, heating, hot water and EV charging in the evening are what a battery covers.
- You want backup during outages. With the right setup, essential circuits or the whole home keep running.
- You are planning an EV or heat pump. A battery helps you run them on your own solar instead of peak-rate power.

Home battery questions
What size battery do I need?
Enough to cover what your home uses from late afternoon to morning, less anything you would rather keep buying cheaply. For many Melbourne homes with solar that is 10 to 14 kWh. We size it from your bills and, where possible, your smart meter data.
Is a bigger battery always better?
No. The federal discount gives full support only for the first 14 kWh of usable capacity, and a battery that never fills or never empties is money sitting idle. We will show you the trade-off in your quote.
Will my battery work in a blackout?
Only if the system is set up for backup. Options range from a few essential circuits, such as the fridge, lights and wifi, to the whole home. Backup adds some cost, and we will explain exactly what stays on.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar?
Usually yes. Depending on your inverter we either connect the battery to it or add a battery inverter. We check your current system before quoting.
How does a battery work with the Midday Power Saver?
From 1 October 2026 you can opt in to a retailer plan with free power from 11am to 2pm. A battery can charge in that window on cloudy days and power your home through the evening peak.
